Man City's James McAtee nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Year award

James McAtee's fine breakthrough season has continued with a nomination for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

Forward McAtee, 19, was a regular for Manchester City's under-23s this season and took a prominent role in their eventual title success. With 18 goals and seven assists - including three hat-tricks - McAtee also broke into Pep Guardiola's first team, making six senior appearances.

With speculation earlier in the season that he could leave City, McAtee was also rewarded with a long-term contract and has now been shortlisted for the PL2 Player of the Year award.

McAtee - who scored 23 goals in all competitions - finished the season as joint top scorer in the league, along with Crystal Palace striker Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. McAtee betters Rak-Sakyi in terms of overall goal contributions, though, with him likely to be his closest competitor for the award.

Also nominated are Conor Bradley of Liverpool, Fulham's Sonny Hilton, and Tottenham winger Dilan Markanday. Southampton's Kazeem Olaigbe and Norwich pair Tom Dickson-Peters and Abu Kamara complete the shortlist.

The award nominees were decided by the Premier League Football Development Panel after PL2 club coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players throughout the season and the same panel will also select the winner, which will be announced next week.

If successful, McAtee will follow in the footsteps of teammate Liam Delap, who won the accolade last season.
