Man City receive North Stand request amid £300m Etihad Stadium renovation project

A Manchester City fan group is asking the club to consult with all North Stand supporters over the stadium expansion in an effort to build on the atmosphere.

1894 Group, who make banners and organise welcomes for the team bus to help drive the noise at the Etihad, are one of several packs of fans that have been invited by the club to discuss how the new North Stand should look. City are adding around 6,000 extra seats as part of a £300m renovation project that will eventually include a hotel and museum at that end of the ground.

The club were keen to get the thoughts of 1894 and elected fan representatives City Matters on the stadium expansion and are pleased there has been an alignment on youth and safe standing sections. They are also confident that the final plans for the new stand will help add to the atmosphere inside the ground.

While the makeup of the new stand has not yet been announced, a survey conducted by 1894 of nearly 1500 of its members has confirmed that there would be considerable support to move from the South Stand to the North Stand - if it is designed with atmosphere at the forefront. 61 per cent of supporters asked said they would switch to the North Stand in the right circumstances, while 52 per cent want to retain some vocal support in the South Stand to complement the North.

There was considerable support for some rail seating, a majority of the new tickets to be for seasoncard holders as well as a dedicated section for 18-25s, while three out of every four people asked believed that the atmosphere should be prioritised over
