Man City 'ready to meet' £50m release clause for Mikel Merino and other transfer rumours

Manchester City are reportedly set to meet the €60m (£50m) release clause of Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.

The Spaniard has played a key role in his side's La Liga campaign. In 27 league appearances, he has scored three goals and grabbed four assists. According to El Confidencial, the 25-year-old is a 'top target' for Pep Guardiola having impressed the City boss with his performances in Spain.

His current contract expires in 2025, so City will have to pay a substantial fee should they wish to sign him. However, Merino's €60m (£50m) release clause means Sociedad would be powerless to stop his departure if City stumped up the cash and the midfielder decided he wanted to leave. Merino is familiar with the Premier League having spent a short time at Newcastle United.

Elsewhere, it is being reported that City may be keen on bringing in a second player from River Plate this summer alongside Julian Alvarez. Sergio Gonzalez (via TEAMtalk ) claims that City are interested in Enzo Fernandez.

The 21-year-old central midfielder has started the season well in Argentina having scored two goals in nine appearances. City are reported to have approached Fernandez's entourage regarding a deal. He is under contract until 2025 so a fee would be commanded by the Argentinian giants.
