Man City 'preparing for contract talks with Erling Haaland' and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are reportedly preparing to open talks with Erling Haaland over a new contract after his scintillating first season with the club.

According to Football Insider, the Blues are keen to reward the Norwegian ace for his incredible goalscoring return, with the 22-year-old having registered 50 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions this season. His current deal runs until 2027, but City are keen to extend his stay.

It was widely reported that his current deal initially contained a release clause worth £150million, which was scheduled to become active in 2024. However, it is thought that was removed when Pep Guardiola signed a two-year contract extension with City in November 2022.

The report adds that Haaland is very happy at the Etihad and has made it clear he is open to signing a new deal with the Blues in the coming months. The striker recently broke the Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season after scoring his 33rd of the season in City's win over Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Fichajes have reported that City are monitoring Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy and could potentially make a move for the Frenchman in the summer transfer window.

The report claims Mendy is viewed as an ideal replacement for Joao Cancelo, with the Portuguese defender currently out on loan at Bayern Munich. It remains to be seen if he will return to the Etihad at the end of the campaign.

Mendy has made 25 appearances in all competitions this term, but he has often found himself behind Eduardo Camavinga in the pecking order - despite the latter usually operating as a midfielder.
