Man City or Liverpool: Fans of only five PL clubs wanted City to win 2018/19 title
Pep Guardiola claimed that everyone wants Liverpool to beat Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
After Man City beat Newcastle 5-0 to move three points clear of the Reds, Guardiola conducted a remarkable interview in which he questioned the media’s bias.
“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool – the media and everyone,” he claimed.
We’re not quite sure where Guardiola has conducted his research but he seems pretty convinced.
While it’s hard to prove whether the football media really does support Liverpool, what about football fans?
Well, that very question was asked of fans from every Premier League campaign towards the end of the 2018/19 season.
At the time, Liverpool led Man City by two points with three games to play – although Guardiola’s side had a game in hand.
The title was very much up for grabs as the Reds went in search of their first ever Premier League trophy.
But who was everyone else wanting to win the league?
A study by Paddy Power asked fans of every Premier League club during that season who they wanted to win the league – Liverpool or Man City?
The results?
Well, it was proved that only five clubs were in favour of Man City winning the title over Liverpool with Burnley split down the middle.
Here’s how they voted:
Liverpool fans | Liverpool 100% – 0% Manchester City
Huddersfield Town fans | Liverpool 75% – 25% Manchester City
Fulham fans | Liverpool 73% – 27% Manchester City
Bournemouth fans | Liverpool 72% – 28% Manchester City
Wolves fans | Liverpool 72% – 28% Manchester City
West Ham fans | Liverpool 71% – 29% Manchester City
Newcastle fans | Liverpool 64% – 36% Manchester City
Crystal Palace fans | Liverpool 62% – 38% Manchester City
Leicester fans | Liverpool 60% – 40% Manchester
