Man City need to make class count in derby as Pep Guardiola spots trend with Manchester United

All eyes are on Sunday’s derby at the Etihad as Manchester United make the short journey to face City. Pep Guardiola hasn't enjoyed the kind of dominance in this fixture as he has in most other encounters with Premier League opposition since moving to England.

City have overtaken their rivals to become top dogs in Manchester since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. They have now finished ahead of United in all of the last eight seasons and it looks set to become nine.

City sit 19 points ahead of their neighbours prior to Sunday’s derby. When the two teams met at Old Trafford earlier this season, although the scoreline didn’t quite reflect it, it was as easy as it comes for City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed soon after, with Ralf Rangnick introduced to try and steady the ship at Old Trafford.

Since then, results have improved for United, even if performances haven’t been all that impressive. However, Guardiola has spotted a familiar Premier League trend that United look to be following.
