Man City loanee Issa Kabore joins Premier League rivals Luton Town

Manchester City have loaned out defender Issa Kabore to Premier League newcomers Luton Town.

Kabore, 22, joined City from KV Mechelen on 2020, before being loaned back to the Belgian side for the 2020/21 season. He spent a productive year at Troyes the following season, before making the move to Marseille last term.

The Burkina Faso international helped his nation to fourth place in the 2022 African Cup of Nations, and he is nearing 100 senior professional appearances.

Now, he will make his first steps in English football, securing a loan spell at Luton after their promotion to the Premier League last season.

After two years in Ligue 1, Luton boss Rob Edwards said he believes Kabore is ready to make the step up to the Premier League, opening up on conversations with City staff about his new right-back.

“This is a really exciting signing and a big coup for the club," Edwards said.

“We’ve had a lot of good feedback from the people we know at Manchester City, they really like him, and we think he’s someone who’s now more than ready for Premier League football; he’s had really good challenges in the top division in France so now is the right time.

“His attributes will help us. He’s an athlete and I think he’ll suit the way we want to play. He comes with a good level of experience and played 29 times in all competitions last year for a team that finished third in France, so we’re very excited.”

City face a trip to Kenilworth Road on December 9, just before they fly out to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup, although Kabore wouldn't be available to face his parent club. Luton then visit the Etihad on April 13.

Kabore is also set to be absent
