Manchester United's transfer business compared to Liverpool, Arsenal and Premier League rivals

Manchester United have been hugely efficient with their transfer business this summer window.

With prime targets Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund through the door, United have splashed out around £172million to improve their squad. Further additions will depend on outgoings as Harry Maguire - to name one example - prepares to sign for West Ham in a deal worth £30m.

Should that move go through as expected, United will target another defensive-minded player. Edmond Tapsoba, Jean-Clair Todibo and the versatile Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich have been mooted as options.

United are not, though, the only top-four contenders pressing ahead with their recruitment drive. Here, we take a closer look at what transfers have already been done by their main Premier League rivals;

Signings: Declan Rice (West Ham, €106.6m), Kai Havertz (Chelsea, €75m), Jurrien Timber (Ajax, €40m).

Departures: Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen, €15m), Matt Turner (Nottingham Forest, €8.15m), Auston Trusty (Sheffield United, €5.8m), Pablo Mari (Monza, €4.9m), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Olympique Lyon, free transfer).

Having pushed Manchester City hard for their Premier League crown last season, it was always going to be about top-quality improvement for Mikel Arteta in the market. Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz will offer them better options in either the starting XI or from the substitutes bench.
