Man City give Dias and Ake injury update for Real Madrid amid 'one per cent chance' verdict

Ruben Dias could not play the full 90 minutes in Manchester City's win over Newcastle, so Pep Guardiola left him out of his squad.

Nathan Ake had been suffering from a sickness bug and other minor fitness issues, leading to him joining Dias in the stands against Newcastle. But Pep Guardiola hopes both will recover in time for the Champions League trip to Real Madrid.

Both Dias and Ake arrived with the City players against Newcastle but were strangely left out of the squad, with Guardiola asked whether they would be available against Madrid on Wednesday.

"I hope so," he said. "Today they were not good. Ruben said, 'I'm not ready to play 90 minutes, maybe 15-20', but having Vitor [Reis] on the bench, I wouldn't risk. And Nathan have sick [problems], and problems after the game against Madrid, so both were not ready to play."

Jack Grealish is also a doubt after missing the Newcastle win having failed to overcome the issue he picked up in the first leg.

With City looking good against Newcastle and showing no signs of a hangover from the frustrating end of the first leg vs Madrid, Guardiola accepted that confidence will be higher, but still only placed his side's chances of progressing to the Champions League last-16 at "one per cent".

"Of course, the victory helped us," he admitted. "But listen, the margin to win in the Bernabeu in that position, everybody knows that if you ask before the game, the percentage to go through, I don't know, we arrive at one per cent. It will be minimal.

"But as much as you have a chance, we will try, that's for sure. This season, the reality is we have been miles, miles away. We have been really, really poor in performance in the results this season, and just for one game, that today, played
