Man City earn £9m windfall from transfer trick - and there's more to come
Manchester City have pocked £2.5m as a result of the sell-on clause they inserted into the deal that took Aro Muric from the Etihad to Burnley two years ago.
The 25-year-old has sealed a return to the Premier League after Ipswich signed the goalkeeper from the Clarets for an initial £8m, with the fee rising to £10m with add-ons.
When City sold him to Burnley for £2.5m two years ago they included a series of clauses in the deal, including a sell-on clause which has now bought in that same figure again, meaning the Blues have now earned £5m from the sale of the Kosovo international, who joined the club at the age of 16.

It takes City's total profit from sales to £60m this summer and that fee includes the £5.4m they made as a result of Douglas Luiz's move to Juventus from Aston Villa. The Brazilian never played a first-team game for City but after impressing on loan to Girona he sealed a 2019 move to Villa Park, where he has shone. After five seasons with Villa, he moved to Juventus for £42.5m this summer and City received some of that profit as a result of the sell-on clause they inserted in the original deal.
It's not the first time City have benefited from such a clause. In the 2023 winter window, they earned £10m when Pedro Porro left Sporting to sign for Tottenham and last summer they made around £9m when Romeo Lavia moved from Southampton to Juventus.
