Man City discover UEFA Champions League Round of 16 knockout opponents

Manchester City will continue their defence of the UEFA Champions League with a Round of 16 tie against Manchester United conquerors FC Copenhagen.

They have faced the Danes four times in their history, drawing the first leg of their UEFA Cup Round of 16 tie in 2009 2-2 before winning the second leg 2-1 thanks to a braze from Craig Bellamy. City also played Copenhagen in the early stages last season, winning 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium and drawing 0-0 in Denmark.

The holders will play the first leg in Denmark during the second or third week of February ahead of the return leg three weeks later. The Blues breezed through the group stage to become only the second-ever English side to win all six fixtures and were consequently put in pot one. City and Arsenal are the only English contingent left in the competition after Newcastle and Manchester United finished bottom of their groups.

A 1-0 win over Galatasaray in their final group game booked their place in the Round of 16, following a 0-0 draw with German champions Bayern Munich and a dramatic 4-3 win over United in Denmark in which Marcus Rashford was sent off.

United had been two goals up when the England forward was shown red in the 42nd minute, and Copenhagen brought the scores level before half-time and then netted twice in the final 10 minutes to claim a famous win
