Man City discover FA Cup third round opponents as draw made

Manchester City will play Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup third round after the draw was made.

Pep Guardiola and his star-studded side won the world-famous competition last season on their way to a historic treble. City beat neighbours Manchester United in the final at Wembley.

Ilkay Gundogan scored both goals in that 2-1 victory. He signed for Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

As the big boys prepare to enter the FA Cup this campaign, with ties scheduled for the January 6/7 weekend, City have been pitted against Championship opposition. The Terriers will make the short journey to the Etihad Stadium.

Due to TV coverage and so forth, some games are likely to take place on Friday, January 5 and Monday, January 8. As things stand, City only have two matches penned in next month - against Newcastle (January 13) and Burnley in the Premier League (January 31) - but Guardiola and his team have up to eight fixtures in December.

In part that is owing to their involvement in the Club World Cup.

City, who take on Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon (4.30pm), are seven-time FA Cup winners and have been runners-up on five occasions. They went all the way to Wembley and won last term and have got their hands on the trophy twice since Guardiola was appointed in 2016.

Huddersfield are currently 21st position in the Championship standings with 20 points from 19 matches played. City, meanwhile, will move a point behind table-topping Arsenal with victory over injury-hit Tottenham.
