Armed cops destroy dogs following attack in Sheffield
Armed police have destroyed two dogs after a dog and its owner were attacked in Sheffield. It happened in the Darnall area of the city shortly before 9am this morning.
South Yorkshire Police (SYP) said they were called to Handsworth Road after receiving reports that three dogs were 'running loose in the street.'
As they searched the area, they received another report that two dogs, said to be a 'bull breed', had escaped from a property and attacked a dog that was being walked along the road. The dog has had to be taken to a vets for treatment.

Its owner was also injured and has required hospital treatment. Officers were dispatched to find the dogs. However the force said the dogs 'became increasingly aggressive towards officers, posing a significant risk to the public.' As a result, the two dogs were destroyed.
A spokesperson for SYP said: "Firearms officers destroyed the dogs to prevent further any further injuries or risk. The third dog was contained by officers and has been seized.
"A 27-year-old man from Sheffield has been arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control. He remains in police custody.
"An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the dog being dangerously out of control. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 250 of 3 December 2023."
The road has been closed whilst officers carry out enquiries into the incident
