Man City defender Sergio Gomez on crutches after suffering injury in training

Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez arrived for the Bournemouth game on crutches after suffering an injury in training.

Gomez, a 2022 signing from Anderlecht, has started two games and made five appearances for the Blues this season as well as making the matchday squad for every game of the campaign - including on Sunday against Manchester United. However, the 22-year-old is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Pep Guardiola would likely have used Gomez in the upcoming weeks as the fixtures come thick and fast, especially given City are set to qualify for the Champions League knockouts with two group games to spare. However, the Spaniard now joins Kevin De Bruyne on the injury list and will have to wait before he can be involved again.

De Bruyne this week confirmed that there is no date for his return from action as he battled back from a recurrence of the hamstring injury he suffered in the Champions League final. The City skipper worked hard to come back over the summer, only to get injured again minutes into the Premier League season.

“I have never experienced this before, I have never had such a serious injury. A hamstring operation is not very common either," he said. "After the match against Burnley, we took scans, referred to several surgeons and they all said I needed surgery.

“We are now three months in and I am doing very well, everything on track… But they have not given me a deadline for when I will be able to play football again.”
