Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak delighted by what Premier League chair said after trophy lift

Khaldoon Al Mubarak is proud of the way Manchester City handled victory and defeat in the final weeks of the season after being contacted by competition bosses.

City held off Arsenal in another high-quality title race, winning on the final day of the season by beating West Ham at the Etihad in front of their own fans. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters chose not to attend the game at the Etihad but chairperson Alison Brittain was present in Manchester to help pass on the medals to Pep Guardiola and his players.

Brittain spoke to Al Mubarak after the trophy presentation to tell him he had to be proud of the way they had conducted themselves during the trophy lift. The City chairman then received similar praise from the FA chair Debbie Hewitt after City had formed a guard of honour following their FA Cup final defeat to United.

"I would share one of the things that I am particularly proud of: in the last game of the season the chair of the Premier League, Alison delivered the trophy to Pep and the team," he said.

"She came back afterwards, and we had a conversation and she told me something that I think echoed very much in my heart. She said, ‘You know, you have to be very proud. I encountered something that was quite unique giving the trophy to the team. Every single member of the team, from coaching staff to players, looked me in the eye and said thank you with a smile and with respect and it’s quite remarkable. Normally in these things players are in a rush or are too busy’.
