Man City can prove point to Erling Haaland against Bayern Munich

In the past few matches, Erling Haaland has shown exactly why Manchester City bought him. Five goals against RB Leipzig turned a difficult last-16 tie in the Champions League into a walkover, a hat-trick against Burnley powered the Blues into the FA Cup semi-finals and then a brace at Southampton increased their Premier League hopes.

As Pep Guardiola has said, these are exactly why the club have bought him and a tie against Bayern Munich offers a similar opportunity. The Norwegian reckons he is at the Etihad to help them win the European trophy that has always eluded them, and there is no chance that he will not be lining up in Tuesday's quarter-final.

However, there was a reason that Haaland picked City over joining another club or staying at Dortmund. The No.9 has five goals and an assist from seven appearances against Bayern from his time in Germany, yet that amounted to zero wins.

As much as Haaland's job is to improve this City team, City can offer Haaland the trophies that he does not currently have to his name. Whether he is able to score this week or not, the aim of Guardiola's squad will be to take a lead into the second leg to show why they are among the favourites to win the tournament.
