Man City boss Pep Guardiola issues Kyle Walker transfer update amid Bayern Munich interest

Pep Guardiola admits Kyle Walker is ‘irreplaceable’ and says he hopes to keep him at the club amid ongoing interest from Bayern Munich in his signature.

The Bundesliga giants have shown a definite interest in signing the 33-year-old this summer, but City want to keep him and have made him an offer to remain at the club.

Reports in Germany suggested that Walker could be left out of the City squad when the two sides meet in pre-season on Wednesday amid uncertainty over his future, however, Guardiola confirms he is set to feature in the match.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Guardiola was quizzed on Walker’s future and whether or not he’d play against Bayern.

“I hear the comments from Thomas [Tuchel] about Kyle, I will say the same, no comment,” he told reporters in Tokyo. “I will say he's an incredibly important player for us. He has specific qualities, so difficult to find worldwide. His specific qualities are irreplaceable.

“We want him, yes, in the end, I don't know what will happen. I know we're in contact, both clubs, we will fight for him like I'm sure Bayern will do it. I don't know how it will finish.”

Asked if he’d feature when the two sides meet, he added: “He's our player. We need to play against Bayern, we need the best players, why should he not play?”

Earlier in the day, Bayern manager Tuchel had refused to be drawn on his club’s interest in the full-back.

When quizzed on the ongoing talks between the two clubs he simply answered: "No comment."
