Man City ‘battling’ Arsenal for Atletico Madrid star and more transfer rumours

Reports in Spain claim Manchester City are interested in Atletico Madrid defender Nahuel Molina and face competition from Arsenal.

The right-back, who lifted the World Cup with Argentina last year, also has the ability to play on the wing and bagged four goals and four assists in 43 matches last season. He scored on his only appearance this season, too.

It is being suggested by Fijaches that the player’s agent has received interest from City as well as Arsenal and Aston Villa. It adds that Molina’s representatives are set to meet with Atletico in the coming weeks to iron out a resolution.

It’s rumoured that Molina has a release clause in his contract, although the report says the precise fee is not known despite figures of €90million being thrown about. The 25-year-old’s current deal runs until 2025.

The article also says that while a switch to the Premier League in one of the next two coming windows is entirely plausible, no firm proposals are known to have been tabled to either club or player yet.

Elsewhere, Mundo Deportivo claims Bernardo Silva was Barcelona’s top target but due to their financial constraints, they could not afford him which prompted the player to sign a Blues renewal until 2026.

It suggests that his new deal has a release clause of £50m with the player still keen on a move to the Nou Camp. The 30-year-old is still very much of interest to Xavi but age is becoming a concern, it adds.

The report also mentions that the La Liga champions asked to be allowed to acquire Bernardo for free pending a £50m obligatory transfer fee the following summer. The club may be more hopeful of landing the midfielder next summer if the rumoured release clause is
