Man City and Liverpool have shown Manchester United what they need from their next attacking signing
This season is only four games old but Manchester United's decision-makers will already have an eye on the scope of their transfer business next summer.
The biggest clubs are always thinking a window or two ahead and given January should usually be a non-event for those teams, it is the summer that focuses minds. United already have an idea of what they need in 2024.
Erik ten Hag has made significant progress in reshaping this squad. In two transfer windows, he's spent more than £400million and has signed a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a left-back, four central midfielders, a right-winger and a striker. But nobody disputes there is more to be done.
Plenty can of course change between now and next summer, but there has to be a good chance a right-back features near the top of the list. Another central defender is likely if one of Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire leaves and another forward will feature highly if, as expected, this is Anthony Martial's final season at Old Trafford.

United spent £72million on 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund this summer and although he's only played just over 30 minutes of football for the club, the expectation has to be that he is the main striker for years to come. But he can't do it on his own.
He will need support and at the moment that is probably going to be Martial, but this is his ninth season at the club and he's only had one really good season. He is also becoming more injury-prone.
So finding a backup for Hojlund next summer is likely going to be something John Murtough and Ten Hag look at, but it doesn't need to be a striker in the same mould. Like every big club, they like Brighton's Evan Ferguson, but
