Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving after woman killed

A man has been charged with causing the death of a woman in Wigan by dangerous driving.

Kathleen Kirby was killed after being hit by a vehicle on Bolton Road on Monday afternoon. She was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries, but sadly died.

Chad Rimington, 32, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, police confirmed this morning. He has also been charged with causing death when driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle.

Rimington, of no fixed address, has been remanded into custody. He will appear at Wigan Magistrates' Court today.

A statement posted on GMP Wigan's Facebook page said: "#CHARGED | Police have today charged a man with causing the death of a woman in Wigan on Monday.

"This morning, Chad Rimington (22/11/1990) of NFA was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death when driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle. He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wigan Magistrates Court today (Wednesday 28 June 2023)."

Following her death, Kathleen's loved ones described her as 'the rock of the family' who 'took everyone under her wing'. They added: "Our hearts our broken forever as today we lost our beloved Mum, Nanna, Sister, Partner, Aunty and best friend to so many.

"She took everyone under her wing, only ever seen the good in everyone. Kathleen would be there no matter what and was the rock of our family, she held everyone together with her strength and passion for life.

"She will never be forgotten and we will all make her proud in everything we do. Love you always and forever, Mum, Nanna, Partner and sister, always in our hearts."
