LIVE: Seven-mile queues on M62 with drivers stuck in traffic after crash - updates

Drivers heading to Greater Manchester are facing long queues on the M62 this rush hour following a crash. There are currently seven-mile queues on the westbound carriageway from junction 22 at Rishworth Moor to junction 24 at Ainley Top, in West Yorkshire.

It follows a collision between junctions 22 and 23. The vehicles involved have since been moved onto the hard shoulder, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.

Motorists are warned to expect delays of 25 minutes. It comes as the area has been hit with wet weather this afternoon, with images from the National Highways camera obscured by rain.

An update from Inrix said: "Queueing traffic for seven miles due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M62 Westbound from J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) to J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor). Congestion to after J24 (Ainley Top).

"Travel time is around 25 minutes. Traffic was briefly held."

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. West Yorkshire Police has been approached for comment.
