Man arrested after Keir Starmer is covered in glitter on stage as group claims responsibility for protest
A man has been arrested after Sir Keir Starmer was covered in glitter on stage by a heckler at the Labour Party Conference, with a group claiming responsibility for the protest.
The Labour leader's conference speech kicked off with a man invading the stage in Liverpool and throwing glitter over him on Tuesday (October 10).
Merseyside Police have now confirmed a 28-year-old man has been arrested following the incident after being detained by security at the event.

A group called People Demand Democracy has since claimed responsibility for the protest. The organisation, described as 'friends' by Just Stop Oil is calling for a 'fair, proportional voting system for Westminster elections'.
The dramatic interruption before the speech even got underway was met by boos from the crowd. After removing his jacket, Sir Keir said "If he thinks that bothers me, he doesn’t know me”, before beginning his speech with glitter on the shoulders of his white shirt.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that a 28-year-old man from Surrey has been arrested following an incident at the Labour Party conference earlier this afternoon.
“The man was detained by security at the event and handed over to the police who arrested him on suspicion of S39 assault, breach of the peace and causing public nuisance. He has been taken to a police station where he will be questioned by police.”
