'Major disruption' due to emergency incident on railway line between Piccadilly and Manchester Airport
There is 'major disruption' this evening due to an emergency incident on the railway line between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport today (Monday, January 21).
All lines are currently blocked between the two major stations. Emergency services are in attendance on the lines, with services cancelled.
An update from National Rail read: "Emergency services dealing with an incident between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport means trains may be delated by up to 45 minutes or cancelled.
"Major disruption is expected until the end of the day."
The announcement was made at around 9.45pm, with passengers told to expect 'major disruption' until the end of service while emergency crews respond.
It also affected services from Liverpool Lime Street and Blackpool North, which were bound for the airport.
Northern said that train services were unable to run between the two stations in both directions. Ticket holders were told to instead use Metrolink services between Manchester Stations and Manchester Airport. Rail replacement transport services were also requested for passengers.
The services affected are:
Wilmslow/Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street - Will divert from Wilmslow via an alternative route and will not call at Manchester Airport
Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport - Will terminate at Manchester Oxford Road
Manchester Piccadilly to Wilmslow via Manchester Airport will be cancelled in both directions
Blackpool North to Manchester Airport - will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly
Manchester Airport to Blackpool North - Will start at Manchester Piccadilly
