Golfers from across the country have started arriving at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Golf Club, venue of the Major General Adamu Jidda Retirement Tournament billed to tee off tomorrow.

The golfers are drawn from Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS); Sapele Athletic Golf Club; Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Ogunu Golf Club; Warri, Delta State; IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja; TYB Buratai, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club; Dolphin Golf Club, and Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos as well as the host club.

According to the organisers of the event, the players will feature in the men’s and ladies contests, veterans, guests and sponsors’ categories, while the professional golfers will add glamour to the event.

The Gen. Jidda retirement golf event is being organised by the Matthew Iduoriyekemwen-led UBTH Golf Club management team in honour of their former Captain, Gen. Jidda, for his successful retirement from the Nigerian Army.

The tournament is sponsored by Nigeria Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Kassid Investment Nigeria Limited and a Committee of Friends.

According to the programme, the golfers are expected to arrive in Benin for the cocktail as well as the pairing draw. The ceremonial tee-off will be performed by Gen. Jidda, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, among others.

The official tee-off is slated from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m., while the presentation of trophies and other prizes is scheduled for 6.00 p.m.
