Maik Nawrocki out of Legia clash as Celtic transfer talk escalates after Josip Juranovic sell on success

Celtic target Maik Nawrocki is out of Legia Warsaw’s Polish Ekstraklasa league opener against LKS Lodz this evening.

Boss Kosta Runjaic is resigned to losing the 22-year-old central defender as the club consider a ‘serious offer’ for the rising star. Brendan Rodgers has target the former Werder Bremen defender as he looks to strengthen his rearguard and he won’t feature in their curtain raiser due to injury, which could mean he has played his last game for the club he joined last summer. Runjaic said: “Maik Nawrocki suffered a minor injury and will not be at our disposal during. The rest of the players are at my disposal.”

Nawrocki was a key player for the Poles last season as he helped them win the Polish Cup with a final win over Rakow Czestochowa. He was included in Poland’s provisional squad for the World Cup in Qatar but didn’t make the 26-man cut.

Galatasaray are also keen on the player and former club Werder Bremen have an option to buy him back. Legia Warsaw are looking to insert a sell-on clause into any deal, similar to Josip Juranovic when he moved from the Poles to Parkhead. At around £4million, he would become the second most expensive Legia Warsaw export behind goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki who joined Monaco for around £6m.
