Maidstone United manager George Elokobi’s praise for 10-goal striker Matt Rush
Maidstone boss George Elokobi believes striker Matt Rush has got the lot.
Rush has scored 10 goals since joining the Stones in November and is proving a key man in their National League South promotion push.
But he adds plenty more to the team besides, with a phenomenal work rate and ability to set up goals for others.
“It’s about all-round performances,” said Elokobi.
“He’s a real targetman for his size.
“His game intelligence is high, he’s always one step ahead of the game, making sure he’s putting his body in between the defender and the ball.
“Can he link up play? Yes, he can. Can he run in behind? Yes, he can do that.
“Also, can he score goals? Yes. Can he assist? He’s got all that.
“He’s still developing. He’s still only young and it’s up to us to carry on developing him.
“He’s hungry for more – he always wants to do more.”
Maidstone were interested in Rush, 22, last summer but the former Southend man joined Aveley.
Six goals and 10 assists for the Millers saw Elokobi go back in for him and this time he got his man.
“We spoke to Matt Rush in the summer,” said Elokobi.
“He was someone that we were trying to get on board here because we knew the value he would bring to our football club and the team.
“It’s excellent to see him enjoying himself and scoring lots of goals.
“He’s someone that doesn’t want to miss a second of training.
“He strives off working hard and making sure he’s developing not just in game situations but more so behind the scenes in training.
“Craig Fagan (Stones assistant manager) is doing a fantastic job with the forwards and it’s paying dividends.
“I’m really delighted for Rushy and I’m thrilled he’s in that environment, so long may that continue.”
