Maidstone United manager George Elokobi’s reaction to goalless draw with Chelmsford City in National League South

George Elokobi couldn’t fault the commitment but felt Maidstone rushed their play against Chelmsford.

United drew 0-0 with their Essex visitors at the Gallagher Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

The point extended Maidstone’s unbeaten run at the start of the season to five games but Chelmsford were the happier of the two sides.

“I thought at times we rushed it a little bit,” said manager Elokobi.

“We maybe needed two or three more passes to try and entice Chelmsford to come out of the mid-low block they were in, and in the end, we didn’t understand that. But it will come.

“You’ve got to look at the positives and it’s another clean sheet and a point towards the right direction.”

Chelmsford are among the fancied sides in National League South this season following heavy investment in the likes of former Charlton striker Lyle Taylor, who’s yet to feature.

They won 5-1 at the Gallagher last season but there was no chance of a repeat.

Neither side really looked like scoring but it’s a good point for both sides at this stage of the season.

Elokobi, who named an unchanged starting XI following Saturday’s 1-0 win at AFC Totton, said: “Our group of players were exceptional in terms of their honesty, their preparations and their readiness to compete, on a hot day, and they’ve given everything again after a very good away victory.

“They’ve followed that up by not losing the game, it’s a third clean sheet in a row, and we have to take all the positives.

“As this stage of the season, it’s about making sure we try and impose ourselves on the opposition, try to hurt them in terms of their limitations, and I thought we did that in patches.
