Maidstone United manager George Elokobi tells of dressing room frustration after describing goalless draw with Weymouth as ‘dull’
Maidstone manager George Elokobi had words in the dressing room after a “dull” goalless draw hit their National League South play-off hopes.
The Stones were held by relegated Weymouth on a frustrating afternoon at the Gallagher Stadium, leaving their top-seven hopes in the balance with three games left.
They still occupy the final play-off spot, moving two points clear of Weston-super-Mare, who were losing 1-0 when their game against Tonbridge was abandoned due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
The league board must decide whether the fixture will be replayed or the points awarded to the Angels.
If it’s replayed, United’s play-off hopes are out of their hands for the first time going into the final two weeks of the season.
On Maidstone’s performance, Elokobi said: “It was a little bit disjointed if I’m being totally honest.
“Fair play, credit to Weymouth, they came here with a game plan and they slowed the intensity, it was down to us to make sure we take the game to them.
“Our group of players gave it a right old go, they tried their honest best but in games like this, it’s about the three points.
“But we got a point, it’s a good reaction from last week (3-0 defeat at Weston), we got a clean sheet, we have to look at the positives.”
Elokobi, back in the dugout after missing the Weston game through illness, added: “There is frustration because our players are honest players, they want to win every single game.
“We’ve had words, we’ve spoken, which is important.
“We’ve told a few truths and it’s important some of the players we’ve spoken to, they take it in good faith.

“A goal could have opened it up for either team but again it was a dull 0-0 game. But we have to look at the point
