Maidstone United boss George Elokobi says good teams don't lose two games in a row after 1-0 victory against Dover Athletic

George Elokobi got the reaction he was looking for as Maidstone beat Dover on Tuesday night.

United were rocked by Saturday’s 5-2 beating at Hampton & Richmond - a result that cost them their 12-match unbeaten record.

But they responded with a clean sheet and a win, with Levi Amantchi’s first-half goal earning a 1-0 victory as Maidstone regained fifth spot in National South.

“I’m pleased with the reaction,” said Stones boss Elokobi.

“It’s three points in the right direction and it’s important we don’t lose two games in a row. We know that as a group.

“Good sides don’t lose two games in a row and we are a good side. It’s important we understand that.

“We’ve just got to keep chipping away and try to get maximum points.

“It’s difficult after a heavy defeat for our players but we’ve seen the mentality, they’ve come out and dug deep against a well-organised side in Dover and they had their rewards.”

The Hampton match was never far from Elokobi’s mind over the rest of the weekend.

He talked things over with his players at training on Monday and they got the job done against second-bottom Dover.

“I thought about it a lot," said Elokobi. “Did it hurt? Yes, it did.

“As a football club, as a manager, as a management team, we’ve not conceded too many goals and all of a sudden you’ve conceded five so you have to go back to the drawing board, the basics.

“We made sure we did that on Monday and the boys came in and had a good watch of how we conceded those goals and what we could have done better as a group.

“We also did visuals in preparation for Dover.

“We knew their strengths, we knew their limitations and it was important we came out and put that into practice.
