Maidstone United 2 Maidenhead United 1 match report: Goals from Leone Gravata and Taylor Foran send the Stones four points clear in National League South
Maidstone moved four points clear at the top of National League South after beating Maidenhead at the Gallagher Stadium.
Leone Gravata gave the Stones an early lead and defender Taylor Foran made it two before substitute Josh Coley replied.
Craig Fagan’s side dug in well against difficult opponents to claim their third home win of the season and extend their lead at the summit.
United - unchanged following last weekend’s win at Horsham - made a dream start with Gravata’s fourth-minute goal.
The Magpies defence failed to deal with a Nana Boateng cross and Gravata produced a lovely first-time finish on the volley from Ken Charles’ flick.
Unfortunately for Gravata, injury ended his afternoon just past the half-hour mark, with Alex Stepien-Iwumene taking his place.
Maidstone’s best chance to add a second before half-time fell to Charles but he delayed his shot and tried to round big keeper Jordi van Stappershoef, who stuck out a leg to stop him.
Boateng, meanwhile, sent the ball wide after sliding in to meet a cross from Tom Leahy which had just evaded Dermi Lusala.
Maidenhead had a couple of decent chances to level.
Both fell to Josh Umerah - a real handful up front.
First he crashed an effort against the bar after turning Stones skipper George Fowler in the box and he later sent a free header wide from a corner.
Stones left-back Leo Hamblin dealt with a dangerous cross from the left, which was crying out for a finish, while Lusala did well to deny Finley Welch when the Magpies man swooped for a header.
Lusala forced a good save from the edge of the box early in the second half and Maidstone doubled their lead from the resulting corner.
Riley Court swung the ball to the back post and Foran somehow flicked home with his back
