Maidstone's British Senior champion Zane Cheeseman named player and development coach of the year at Kent LTA awards

Maidstone's Zane Cheeseman was a double winner at the Kent LTA awards evening.

Cheeseman won the player-of-the-year award at the Tudor Park Hotel after a 2022 that saw him lift five senior titles, including British champion in the 40s' singles and 35s' doubles at Wimbledon, play in the Kent County Cup team that were runners-up in the over 35s' national title in Eastbourne and win the captaincy for GB's over-45s at the World Team Championships in Turkey.

He was also named development coach-of-the-year for his work with Horsmonden Hotshotz.

Bearsted Tennis Club's Gabby Chidwick was part of the Kent ladies' winter cup triumph for a fifth year in a row, earning her and her squad-mates the team-of-the-year award.

Canterbury's Ruben Harris was named as one of two junior players of the year. Aspiring Paralympian Harris, who trains at Canterbury Tennis Club, Whitstable LTC and the University of Kent, won three gold medals in the National Schools Games and Represented Team GB’s juniors at the World Team Cup.

Bromley's Eloise Newberry was also junior player of the year.

University of the year went to the University of Kent who are now thriving on a new four-court indoor facility, having had no facilities for a year.

Junior team of the year were Kent boys’ under-18s team - the national champions - which included Canterbury's Alexis Chastang, Ben Gusic‐Wan, Sebastian McDonnell Palomares and Michael Pickering and Gravesham Tennis Club's Timothy Viding.

Deal Parochial Primary School took the president's award for initiatives including free tennis leader training, an outreach club for former pupils, and combined education and sport with a science project.

They also entered a countywide science, technology, engineering and maths
