Maguire two off the lead after fast start at Honda LPGA Thailand

Leona Maguire is just two shots off the lead after an opening round 67 at the €1.6m Honda LPGA Thailand at Siam Country Club.

The Cavan woman has made a fine start to the tournament to sit on five-under par, two shots adrift of a group of five players at the top of a crowded leaderboard.

The 28-year-old began with six successive pars before picking up the pace with three birdies in the next four holes to move to three-under.

Another shot followed at 15 and she signed off her round in style at the last with her fifth birdie of the day for a five-under par 67, with Jaravee Boonchant, Nasa Hataoka, Anna Nordqvist, Xiyu Lin and Jennifer Kupcho leading the way on -7.

It is a stacked field, with world number one Lydia Ko (-4) making her first start on the LPGA Tour and nine members of of the Rolex Rankings top-10 in action.
