M62 shut after 'multi-vehicle' crash with police on scene

The M62 has been shut tonight (July 6) following a multi-vehicle crash.

Emergency services have shut off the motorway in Greater Manchester, on the westbound carriageway between junction 22 and junction 21, following the collision.

National Highways have posted: "The #M62 westbound is closed between J22 (#Denshaw) and J21 (#Milnrow #Rochdale) following a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services and Traffic Officers on scene.

"Allow extra journey time if in the area this evening."

Travel service Inrix has said emergency services have stopped traffic.

It says: "M62 Westbound closed due to multi-vehicle accident from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way (Milnrow)."

The crash happened at around 10.45pm.

It is not known how long the closure is expected to last.
