M60 shut for hours overnight as man brought to safety from bridge

A man was brought to safety from a bridge over the M60 overnight.

The motorway was fully shut off between junction 23 for Ashton-under-Lyne and junction 22 for Oldham from around 12.30am this morning (Friday). Police said emergency services responded to reports of a male on a bridge over the carriageway.

The man, aged 40, was brought to safety by specialist officers and negotiators. No injuries were reported.

The stretch of motorway was closed off for several hours until around 5.10am. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a male on a bridge over the m60 motorway at about 12.30am this morning (Friday 14 July 2023).

"Emergency services attended the scene and a 40-year-old man was brought to safety by specialist officers and negotiators. No injuries were reported at the scene."
