CCTV appeal after man grabs teenager from behind and tries to drag her in bushes

Police have released CCTV pictures of a man they want to speak to after a teenager was grabbed from behind by a stranger before he tried to drag her into some bushes.

The terrifying incident happened on Winwick Road in Warrington at around 3.10am yesterday (Saturday, July 29). Police said the victim - a 19-year-old woman - was grabbed from behind by an 'unknown man'.

He then tried to drag her into some bushes near to Majestic Wine. The woman was able to get help from a passing taxi driver and escaped unharmed, but was left 'extremely shaken'.

Police are now working to identify and find the suspect. Detectives have released two CCTV photos of a man they believe 'may have vital information'.

The man was wearing dark blue tracksuit bottoms with a red patch at the back. Anyone who recognises him, or who has any information, should contact Cheshire Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Danielle Knox, of Warrington CID, said: "The victim in in this case has been left extremely shaken as a result of her ordeal and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the person responsible.

"Patrols have been stepped up in the local area and as part of our ongoing investigation we are keen to speak to the man in the CCTV images who may hold vital information. As can be seen in the images the man was wearing distinction dark blue tracksuit bottoms which have a red patch on the back.

"I’d urge anyone with any information in relation to the identity of the man to contact us on 101, or at www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML 1607819. Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
