M6 closed following 'serious collision' in Lancashire - latest updates

The M6 has been closed for several hours this morning due to a serious collision. The southbound section of the motorway between junction 32 and 31, near Preston, has been shut since 5am and is set to be closed for a 'number of hours'.

Diversions are currently in place with motorists asked to find an alternative route. Access to the M6 via the M55 is also closed because of the same incident.

The full nature of the incident is unclear but LancsLive reports the closures are due to an overturned vehicle.

A Highways North West spokesman said: "The M6 remains closed southbound between J32-J31 near Preston following a serious collision. LancsPolice are leading the incident and will be conducting investigation works. It is anticipated the road will remain closed for a number of hours at least."

"This is following a serious road traffic collision. Lancashire Police are at the scene and leading the incident.

"Expectations from the scene are that police will be conducting a collision investigation and the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning at least.

"Please note the M55 link road to the M6 southbound is closed. Traffic is to leave at J1 on the M55 and follow the below diversion route to re-join the M6 at J31.

"The M55 link
