M48 Severn Bridge closed in both directions due to strong wind - latest updates

National Highways has advised that the M48 Severn Bridge has been forced to close in both directions due to high winds. Traffic is affected between Chepstow and Aust as a result.

A statement on the Severn Bridges Twitter account reads: "#M48 Both directions #Aust #Chepstow Due to increasing winds we are closing the bridge to all traffic. We will continue to monitor the speeds and as soon as its safe we will reopen."

The Inrix traffic management system, meanwhile, adds further detail that the closure is in place between Junction 2 of the A466 Wye Valley Link Road (for Chepstow) and Junction 1 of the A403 (for Aust).

It states that a diversion is in place via the M4 Prince of Wales bridge.
