M4 weather warning for drivers as stranded swan rescued

Motorists are being warned of "poor driving conditions" on the M4 this morning. There was also a swan on the hard shoulder near Port Talbot that caused delays as traffic slowed to pass it.

Traffic officers were with the swan for more than an hour, but at 10.24am Traffic Wales confirmed the animal had been rescued and thanked "everyone involved".

The mixture of bad weather and animal rescue led to very slow traffic between junction 41 Pentyla / Baglan and junction 43 Llandarcy at Port Talbot during the majority of the rush hour. Traffic cameras showed very heavy traffic in the area in both directions.

Traffic Wales also warned: "Poor driving conditions in this area. Please allow additional time for travel. Slow down."

They added: "We have had numerous calls in relation to a swan on the hard shoulder in the above location. Traffic officers are now at scene and will remain with the swan until assistance arrives."

The Met Office forecast for Wales today says: "A wet and windy morning with rain, heavy at times, and coastal gales. Skies brightening in the afternoon but with lingering showers." There are restrictions on the M48 Severn Crossing because of high winds.
