M4 Prince of Wales bridge reopens after fire - updates

M4 Prince of Wales bridge has been reopened after earlier being closed westbound due to a fire. The motorway had been shut near Bristol between Junction 20 (Almondsbury Interchange) and Junction 22 (M48), due to a lorry fire. The M5 north and southbound link roads on to the M4 westbound were also closed, along with the M48 northbound from M4 to J1.

It is not known whether anyone was injured in the incident, but normal traffic conditions resumed shortly before 11pm. National roads service Inrix updated at 10.59pm: "M4 Prince Of Wales bridge westbound reopened, earlier lorry fire from J20 M5 J15 (Almondsbury Interchange) to J22 M49."

Avon Fire and Rescue Services were at the scene working to extinguish the blaze. A diversion was also implemented for those drivers caught up in the incident.
