M4 blocked at Prince of Wales Bridge by multi-vehicle crash

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the M4 eastbound's Prince of Wales Bridge following a multi-vehicle accident, including one reportedly overturned car. A witness in the held traffic said they saw seven ambulances.

Traffic was held from 12.10pm. The M48 Severn Bridge was also closed in both directions due to strong winds between J2 A466 Wye Valley Link Road in Chepstow and J1 A403 Aust in Monmouthshire. The planned diversion had been the M4's Prince of Wales Bridge.

At around 1.17pm today, a spokesperson for Gwent Police confirmed that they had been called to the scene of a four-car crash. The force added that no injuries have been reported from the crash.

In a statement, they said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the M4 Prince of Wales bridge, between junction 22 and 23, at around 12pm on Thursday 21 December. Officers have attended to assist with traffic management and the collision involved four cars. No injuries are reported, and the section on the bridge heading east between the two junctions is currently closed."

At around 1.47pm, traffic monitoring service Inrix said that all lanes had been reopened but that there was severe delays in the area.
