Luxury Christmas dining experiences return at East Lancashire Railway - here’s how to get tickets

This December you can tuck into a luxury Christmas meal while riding a heritage steam train through the Greater Manchester countryside. East Lancashire Railway (ELR), which is known for its festive events, is bringing back its luxury Christmas dining experiences.

Many people will be familiar with the heritage railway’s Santa Special trains, where families can hop on board a steam train with Father Christmas himself. While it promises lots of festive fun for little ones, ELR’s Dining With Distinction experience provides something a little more sophisticated for adults.

Diners are invited to take a seat on one of the restored Pullman-style steam train carriages, which takes you through the gorgeous Irwell Valley. The beautiful interiors with luxurious furnishings and polished wood panelling transport passengers to a different time.

From start to finish guests will receive the ultimate luxury dining experience. Upon boarding you’ll be presented with a welcome drink before tucking into a four-course, silver-served meal.

The festive menu features mouth-watering dishes, including fresh ricotta and asparagus cheesecake with a mixed salad, port and apricot chutney; traditional roasted turkey served with kilted chipolata and stuffing, and of course homemade Christmas pudding with brandy sauce (the menu may change depending on when you travel).

Each party will also have a personal waiter or waitress, ensuring all your needs are met. The meal will be rounded off with coffee and after dinner chocolates.
