Luus hails Sekhukhune for 'raising her hand' as Proteas bounce back in Dublin

Proteas women captain Sune Luus hailed seamer Tumi Sekhukhune as South Africa bounced back to clinch the three-match T20 series 2-1 against Ireland on Wednesday.

Sekhukhune starred with the ball as she took three for 20 in 3.3 overs as the Proteas restricted the Irish to 104 in the decider.

The Proteas chased down the small total with relative ease thanks to Lara Goodall (48) and Anneke Bosch (44*) as the tourists sealed an eight-wicket win to win the T20 series in Dublin.

"The first game was a bit of a shambles and we didn't know what to expect from conditions," Luus told reporters on Wednesday.

"We have to live up to that number two spot and play cricket like the way we should. Our performance over the last two games showed courage and a lot of character to bounce back from the first performance.

"I'm excited and proud of how this group of youngsters bounced back and clinched the series. There's still a couple of things that we can and need to improve on."

Sekhukhune finished as the highest wicket-taker of the T20 series, capturing eight wickets at an average of 8.62.

Luus was delighted with Sekhukhune raising her hand against Ireland as this could set her up for the busy summer ahead, which includes an all-format tour to England and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

"She sees it as a great opportunity to put up her hand and with the big summer ahead with the England tour and the Commonwealth Games," said Luus.

"She took it on herself to take her game forward and be that strike bowler for us, to be consistent and contain the game and she's been doing brilliantly, putting up her hand and taking that responsibility."

What an incredible T20I
