Luncarty's Scottish Cup dream continues after preliminary round one win against Loch Ness

Luncarty were in Scottish Cup dreamland on Saturday.

And now manager Jason McCrindle is backing his players to create even more history.

The Bleachers, competing in the famous competition for the first time, have advanced to the second preliminary round thanks to a 3-1 home win against Loch Ness at the weekend.

That has set up another date with destiny at the beginning of next month and a trip to take on Newton Stewart for a spot in the first round of the main draw.

Speaking after Saturday’s success, McCrindle told the PA: “Before the match the message to the players was that they hadn’t worked so hard just to play one game in this competition.

“We didn’t want to come out of the tie with any regrets and we wanted to get ourselves into the next round. The whole day was just a real special occasion for us.

“It was brilliant for some of our committee members who have been with the club for most of their lives.

“There was a really good support in - from Loch Ness too - and we had one of our youth teams as mascots.”

McCrindle added: “Our work on Newton Stewart will start straight away.

“The carrot is now there for us. Let’s now go and create more history. Go and make yourselves heroes at the club.

“What a massive opportunity these players have to get into the main draw of the Scottish Cup.”

Kyle Woolley and Rhys Davies had given the Bleachers a two-goal lead on Saturday before the Highland visitors hit back after the break.

But progression in front of a bumper and energetic crowd was secured thanks to Jamie Mackie’s finish with five minutes remaining.
