FA Cup Preliminary Round round-up: Lydd’s tie with Deal abandoned due to injury, Whitstable, Faversham and Kennington all progress

Lydd’s FA Cup Preliminary Round tie with Deal was abandoned late in the second half due to injury.

Deal keeper Henry Newcombe was injured following a challenge from a corner with eight minutes left to play.

A statement from Deal said: “Henry is up, has been conscious throughout and is stable, he’s in the back of the ambulance now and will be on route to hospital shortly. As you’d expect, the game has been abandoned.”

Lydd, who had beaten Faversham 4-1 at home in the league on Wednesday night, went ahead inside two minutes through Troy Howard. They doubled their advantage just before half-time through a Ronnie Dolan penalty.

A statement from Lydd said: “Unfortunately today’s FA Cup Preliminary Round fixture vs Deal Town was abandoned due to a heavy collision to the opposition goalkeeper Henry Newcombe.

“Everyone at Lydd Town FC, staff, players and fans, would like to wish Henry a very speedy recovery and hope he returns to the pitch soon.

“We are also aware that Henry was conscious throughout and was in a stable condition on his way to hospital to receive treatment.

“An update about the fixture/result will be posted as soon as we hear from the FA.”

The other all-Southern Counties East League tie saw Whitstable win 2-0 at VCD Athletic.

Josh Oliver gave Whitstable an early lead with Liam Gillies ensuring their progress seven minutes from time.

Faversham Town also progressed as they enjoyed victory on their first game at Salters Lane on the new 3G surface.

An own goal saw visitors Merstham go ahead but Jefferson Aibangbee levelled on the half-hour and Matt Parsons netted the winner straight after the restart.

Kennington boss Dan Scorer praised his team’s ability to collect clean sheets in midweek so he’d have been delighted
