Luke McCowan tipped to be Celtic 'surprise package' as pundit waxes lyrical and names 2 key traits

Luke McCowan has been tipped to be Celtic's surprise package this season.

Brendan Rodgers left it late on deadline day to swoop for the Dundee midfielder after numerous failed bids from Premiership rivals Hibs for the 26-year-old. A video emerged on line as he went to Parkhead for the first time with his one-liner already winning over the Hoops faithful before making his debut off the bench in the win over Rangers in a whirlwind weekend.

It was a busy deadline day for Celtic who also broke their transfer record to bring in Arne Engels from Augsburg and also shelled out big money for defender Auston Trusty from Sheffield United. Adam Idah was a top target all summer and that move was also completed for a big fee earlier in the window as the Celtic board backed Rodgers in the market in his bid to dominate domestically and make a stamp on the newly revamped Champions League.

Despite paying out such high fees elsewhere, Record Sport columnist and Go Radio pundit Barry Ferguson is convinced McCowan can be the real gem from the champions' businnes. He's picked out two key components of his game that has caught his eye and reckons he will be a shoe in for Scotland if he takes his Dundee form to Parkhead and breaks into the XI.

Asked about Steve Clarke and if he should have brought fresh blood into the national team set-up for the Euros to gain valuable experience, Ferguson said: "I said when the [Scotland] squad got announced, your Lennon Miller's, Connor Barron's and Luke McCowan's. Another thing about Luke McCowan, I think he will be the surprise package for Celtic.

"I know Celtic have spent £11million for [Arne] Engels, £9.5m for [Adam] Idah but to get him for just under £1m, I think he can be the surprise package. He's very
