Luis Suarez in agreement with Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool pursue Darwin Nunez transfer

Luis Suarez has endorsed Liverpool's move for Darwin Nunez as Jurgen Klopp's men close in on the Benfica striker.

can exclusively reveal that the Reds are in talks to sign the Benfica striker this summer as they look to hijack Manchester United's move for the Uruguayan. Liverpool are willing to meet the Lisbon club's £85million asking price and are set to table an opening offer for the 22-year-old, according to Portuguese outlet Record, via Sport Witness.

Nunez has hinted that his preference is to join the Anfield club and is hesitant about moving to Old Trafford as he wants to play Champions League football next season. Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Nunez after getting a front-row seat of his potential when they came head to head with Benfica in the Champions League quarter-finals, during which he scored a goal in either leg.

The German manager is pushing for the transfer and is ready to tweak his forward line to accommodate Nunez, with Sadio Mane looking increasingly likely to depart after two failed bids from Bayern Munich. Suarez shares Klopp's feelings about Nunez and has spoken highly of his international teammate.

When Suarez played for Barcelona, he actually recommended him to the Spanish giants while his compatriot was with Almeria. Nunez moved from Penarol to the second-tier side Spanish side for a reported £4.5million fee in 2019.

Barca didn't take Suarez up on his advice but Benfica took a chance on Nunez, shelling out £20million for the frontman a year later. Suarez predicted that Nunez would become an £85million player after seeing him up close and personal for the national team.
