Luis Diaz comments music to the ears of new Liverpool team-mates Mo Salah and Sadio Mane

Liverpool’s front-three is about to get a new dynamic with the arrival of Porto star Luis Diaz.

The Colombian attacker is closing in on a move to Anfield for an initial fee of around £37.5million with a further £12.5m in additional performance-related payments.

It would see Diaz, who was joint top goalscorer in this summer’s Copa America, link-up with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in a frightening Reds attack.

And whilst Mane and Salah have established themselves as Liverpool ’s goalscoring superstars, comments from Diaz suggest he is happy to play a supporting role.

Speaking to Marca in December 2020, Diaz explained how he is more than happy to focus on being provider and setting up goals for team-mates.

“I like goals a lot, since I was little,” Diaz admitted. “But if I see my teammate better positioned, I try to assist.

“Sometimes my teammate tells me: 'why don't you shoot?'... but I prefer to give him the pass because he's in a better position to score.”

Those words will likely be music to the ears of Salah and Mane, who have both made headlines for their drive for goals.

On occasion, the pair have appeared to clash over incidents where they have not passed to one another in front of goal.

And speaking to Egyptian broadcaster MBC Masr TV about his relationship with Mane last month, Salah admitted the pair are sometimes “selfish” in front of goal.

"We are team-mates on the pitch and in the dressing room, we have a very professional relationship," said the forward. "We both give everything we have to help the team win.

"Maybe we’re competing to show who is the best, and this is normal in any team and a legitimate right for any player, but in the end, we serve the team.
