Lucas Moura picture becomes clearer with Tottenham talks confirmed on future plans

Lucas Moura admits he will return to play for Sao Paulo one day but is likely to remain at Tottenham next season after holding talks with club officials.

The 29-year-old has been with Spurs since January 2018 after moving to north London from Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazil international has made 202 appearances in all competitions, scoring 38 goals. But he is not a regular Premier League starter, having been given the nod only 14 times in 2020-2021.

The South American enjoyed 19 starts among 34 top-flight appearances last term. He is seen more as an impact player off the bench, with power, pace and skill out wide.

Moura bagged two goals and registered six assists in 2021-2022, providing ammunition for the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

He has one year left on his current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The talented winger’s game time reduced after the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski.

And he has been heavily linked with a return to his homeland.

But, speaking to the Brazilian media, it appears as though Tottenham fans will see the wide man next season.

“Hardly anything will happen in this window. I will hardly leave Tottenham. Of course, we never know what will happen,” he told Band. “But it’s very likely that I will stay, I already had a conversation with the club, they are interested in me staying.

“Even more so with the Champions League spot, so I feel very motivated for next season, to continue.”

Moura began his professional career with Sao Paulo, having come up through the club’s youth ranks. He has earned 35 caps for his national side and will have high hopes of being part of the Selecao’s World Cup squad.

There is a chance that he may be loaned out next season, with Spurs tipped to make many changes
