Loureiro victorious at Kyalami while Fischer extends BMW M Racing Series points lead

Paulo Loureiro took a hard-fought victory at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit this past weekend (3-5 February), while Nicholas Fischer extended his lead on the points table with two rounds of the 2022 season now completed.

With over 40 entrants for Round 2, as part of the Kyalami 9 Hour support series roster, all sessions for the series were split into two groups. Friday morning's qualifying session greeted the Classes A & B group with a wet circuit after all of Thursday's sessions were completed in hot and dry conditions. Paulo Loureiro, who dominated Thursday's practice sessions, set the pole position time. The qualifying session for Classes C, D and E took place in dry conditions, with Kishoor Pitamber setting the session's fastest time.

He was closely pursued by Class A's William Einkamerer, who had to fight his way through the field after an electrical problem, similar to frustrations in the season opener. Jagger Robertson and Thomas Potgieter completed the Class B podium. At the same time, Paulo Loureiro delivered a stellar performance to finish as the Class A runner-up, setting the fastest lap in the process.

Conditions changed for the Classes C, D and E race merely five minutes later. A severe storm arrived and eventually brought all on-track activities to a halt for the day, but not before the second group completed
