Louie Barry praise will be music to Steven Gerrard's ears at Aston Villa

Young hot-shot Louie Barry fully announced himself at Swindon on Tuesday with a scintillating two-goal showing against Walsall.

Barry, 18, had a hand in all five of the Robins' goals and opened the scoring with a powerful run and shot which flew straight into the far top-right corner to put Swindon well on their way.

The striker will return to Aston Villa in the summer where Steven Gerrard will have another good look at him. The head coach had Barry alongside the likes of Philippe Coutinho in training at Bodymoor Heath in January prior to his loan switch to the County Ground.

His current manager, Ben Garner, said of Barry's form which has seen him score three in his last two: "There's been a massive change in him since he walked through the door. He's grown in confidence with each passing day.

"The group has accepted him straight away, which I think is a massive help.

"He’s fitted in really well, worked well in training, wants to learn, wants to improve.

"He's very coachable, very very coachable and takes things on. Tactically very intelligent.

"The confidence of the goal at Carlisle last week and then these two finishes on Tuesday, for a young lad at 18-years-old, to go in like that and show that composure, is wonderful."

Barry played on the left of an attacking three on Tuesday, and it's a position he likes as it allows him to take defenders on and to cut into the box to score.

The fact he's such a willing learner and has a burning desire to become the best version of himself will be music to Gerrard's ears as he'll look to mould him into a more-rounded - and complete - player in the summer with Barry fully expected to be involved in the first-team's pre-season plans in July.
